Simple But Effective Home Security Tips

Getting a good quality home security system is one of the best ways you can protect your home against burglary. However, not everyone can afford such a system, and even if you have one, you may not always remember to have it on. Fortunately there are a few simple tricks to help make your house safer. Following are some home security tips that you can easily employ today.

*Don't hide a key to your house under the doormat, in the mailbox or on the door frame. Instead, bury one in a film can in your garden and only use in for a real emergency.

*Change locks when you move into a new house or if you lose your keys.

*Use timers for lights and radios or TVs so your home looks occupied at all times.

*Don't leave notes on the door for people stating that you are out as it invites burglars.

*Having a dog really can help to keep burglars away. Even a small dog draws more attention than a burglar wants.

*Talk to your neighbors if you ever see anyone or anything suspicious in your neighborhood and encourage them to do the same.

These home security tips are very simple but can really make a difference if a burglar decides to look into your house for burglarizing. Of course your doors and windows are the place a burglar will make his entrance so always keep them locked. Often burglars just walk through an unlocked door!

Here are some other things you can do to secure your doors and windows.

*Double lock your sliding glass doors by putting a pole the length of the door on the inside track to keep it from being opened.

*Make sure there is no glass on your main doors, or if there is make sure it's reinforced

*Especially if you have glass panels in your door use deadbolts that can only be opened with a key (both inside and out)

*Make sure your doors are made of strong, healthy wood that can't be easily knocked down.

*Make sure the hinges for the doors are on the INSIDE, otherwise burglars spot an easy way in.

*To keep burglars from breaking a window pane and unscrewing the lock, drip some paint or solder on the screws so they are difficult or impossible to remove.

Of course these are just a few of the things you can do to protect your home and possessions, but you can find many more suggestion by searching online for home security tips. Reading them can give you a good idea of things you should be thinking about and avoiding to make your home less tempting to burglars.
